The Role

As our first Engineering Manager, you will have the unique chance to shape the role and define what that looks like at Robin AI over time. Our ambitions go way beyond reviewing contracts. We want to build technology that changes the way companies all over the world do deals by developing ground-breaking products that transform the way legal teams operate. With our ambitious product vision, you will have ample opportunities to grow your career as an Engineering Manager, scaling our engineering team and shaping the future of our engineering processes. You'll make meaningful decisions on our technical direction and work with engineers to implement them. You'll drive key initiatives for the backend chapter and identify how we can do things better. This role offers the chance to implement real change at a fast-growing legal tech start up that's transforming an industry.

Tech Stack

Our frontend is built using React and Apollo, and we use Python web frameworks, such as Django and Flask, to implement our back-end services, alongside various other services and libraries such as Celery and Elasticsearch. Everything runs on AWS services, including but not limited to ECS, Lambda and SQS. We use CircleCI to build and deploy, and all of our infrastructure is managed using Terraform.


  • You will be responsible for 6-8 Backend Engineers; promoting growth through feedback, and help each team member achieve their potential by supporting them through their journey at Robin.
  • Scale our backend engineering team through inclusive hiring. You will spearhead our initiative to diversify our talent pipeline by building relationships with coding bootcamps, network groups and beyond.
  • You'll shape our onboarding processes and mentorship program to help set our engineers up for success, develop their skills, and create learning opportunities.
  • Champion a collaborative engineering culture where people feel empowered to push boundaries, take ownership and drive real change.
  • Oversee key Product initiatives, and help Engineers to make crucial technical decisions at a design, architectural and implementational level as our capabilities grow and demand for our services increases.

Your Skills

  • Developing the careers and skills of your team is your passion. You take time you understand your teams career goals and what is important to them. You foster a great engineering culture by ensuring trust, honesty and openness within your team.
  • You have been responsible for scaling engineering teams at start-ups or similar size organisations to Robin and have developed onboarding experiences to set your team up for success.
  • You have a background of designing and implementing web applications and API’s, utilising a variety of tools and technologies.
  • You have led the development of native applications on Cloud Infrastructure; you are able to identify and promote architectural improvements to enhance the security, stability, and scalability of infrastructure.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the entire development process (design, development and deployment).

Compensation @ Robin AI

  • Salary: £120,000+
